You might find it hard to believe but actually there were no paints used in these installations that you see. Stephen Knapp, the artist is the main mastermind behind these paintings. These are artworks created only by refracted white light and glass at use. Knapp uses a special type of glass. It is dichoric glass with metal coating layers. When he combines the two, they become prism and separate the white focused light into different colors of the spectrum. In short, he does separate the white light into different colored lights with different frequencies.
He was facinated by light throughout his entire life. He has two reasons for the fascination One is for the effect it bears and the other is what it can do when properly used. He used light in all his works and he believes he separates white light into different “Paints” of light with light painting. The paintings surpass both physical appearance and illusions. They touch the human spirit to utmost level. Knapp’s skill lies in cutting and shaping up the glass. He does abstract work and intersects between painting, sculpture and architecture.
