The Aérotrain – A Hovertrain from 1965 to 1977 in France was the first train in the world of its kind.

Unfortunately the project was abandoned in 1977 due to the death of lead engineer behind the project Jean Bertin, lack of funding and mainly because of the adoption of TGV by the French government.
